Europe to Go!
School Project

The brief

In recent years, there has been a growing trend among people in Europe to use public transportation more frequently.

To make the experience of using public transportation more convenient, many people are turning to mobile apps that provide real-time information about bus, train, and tram schedules, as well as maps, route planning, and payment options.

My role

I started designing the app for traveling across Europe with public transit by identifying the key user personas, their travel needs, and pain points. This helped me design a user-centered app that caters to the specific needs of its users, considering both the UX and UI elements.

Research

Research Methodology

I conducted several interviews to understand the challenges travelers face when visiting a new country with limited public transit information. The interviews revealed common pain points, including language barriers, difficulty finding accurate information, and concerns about wasting money.

Identified Customer Insights:

Main Pain Points:

  • Difficulty in navigating public transit due to unfamiliarity with routes, schedules, and fares.

  • Language barrier causing problems in communicating with locals and obtaining necessary information.

  • Wasting money on unnecessary transportation or getting lost while exploring the new city due to lack of proper information.

Biggest User Needs:

    • The need for clear and accurate information about the local public transit system, including routes, schedules, and fares.

    • The need for language support to help communicate with locals and obtain necessary information.

    • The need for a cost-effective and efficient way to explore the new city without wasting money on unnecessary transportation or getting lost.

Top Three Motivators:

  • The motivation to gain new experiences and discover the culture of the new country.

  • The motivation to save money and make the most of their travel budget by using affordable and efficient public transportation.

  • The motivation to feel confident and independent while exploring the new city by having the necessary information and language support to navigate the public transit system.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, traveling to a new country where one lacks information about public transit, faces language barriers, and struggles to find the right information can be daunting. However, with thorough preparation, including researching the transportation system, learning basic local phrases, and prioritizing cost-effective exploration, travelers can enhance their experience

User Personas

The target audience consists of adventurous individuals in their mid-twenties who live in urban areas and hold junior specialist roles. They prioritize spending on travel and unique experiences over material possessions, seeking to explore new cultures and discover hidden gems. They value convenience in travel planning and prefer authentic, less touristy locations that balance adventure with comfort and security.

Competitor analysis

I started with a competitor analysis, what is the strength and weaknesses from my competitors?

Wireframing

Before we began prototyping, I conducted thorough research to gather insights into our audience and their needs. Armed with this understanding, I proceeded to the drawing board.

Creating a user journey

For me, designing the user journey was straightforward. My primary goal was to create an app that simplifies city-to-city travel across Europe. I wanted to eliminate the hassle of downloading numerous apps, making it easy and convenient for users to navigate their travels with a single, comprehensive platform.

Find the trip – buy the ticket – make the trip
